American Shad
More than two feet long, these saltwater fish migrate to fresh water to lay their eggs. They were caught in great seine nets by slaves. The fish were packed in barrels and sent to the West Indies for the slaves on these islands.

White Mullet
These foot-long fish occasionally visit the Bay. They are called silver jumpers because they leap from the water as they follow the shoreline.

Menhanden
While these fish are also eaten, they are better known for many commercial and industrial uses such as cat food and fertilizer. They are also called mossbunkers.
