Posters, part 4

A couple of months ago I shared images of posters in our collection. Photographing all of the posters is one of my goals this year as I know that we have some pretty fantastic ones and it would be great to have updated photographs of all of them. When the project is completed, the photos will be entered into our database where they will be available to anyone searching our collection online. I’ve recently been able to work on the project again, so I thought I would share some more posters!

When Research pays off

There is nothing quite so satisfying in my job then when I make an interesting discovery regarding objects in our collection. A couple of weeks ago I was researching some of the North German Lloyd ships,Kaiser Wilhelm IIandKronprinz Wilhelm, when I came across a picture of the First Class Dining Room forKronprinzessin Cecilie. Now, I had seen this picture before (shown below), but hadn’t really taken a good look at it.

This time I noticed that the decorative piece in the center looked familiar so I zoomed in and sure enough, it is a piece in our collection! The four cherubs around it (only three are visible in this picture) are also in our collection.Read more

Propaganda Posters

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am currently spending a little bit of time each week photographing our posters, of which we have about 600. The eventual goal is to put each of these photographs in our database so that we can use them when searching for posters, but also so that visitors can see them when they search our collection online. Propaganda Posters

I’ve been spending a lot of time recently with our collection of posters, mostly propaganda or advertising, as I’ve been photographing them so we can have the images in our database. For some reason, I have always been drawn to posters, especially those with bright, colorful images (as with the ones I shared a few posts ago). So without further ado, here are some of the ones I have been working with this week.
